Once again, the age-old middle east conflict is approaching the boiling point. This weekend, we stuck our foot back into that quagmire. Just prior to our strikes, the Chinese Communist Party sent multiple 747s to the area to relocate nuclear scientists to China. Yesterday, Putin hinted that he might be willing to give Iran the nuclear warheads that they’ve been thwarted from developing.

The three major military powers on Earth are posturing and striving for dominance as usual. It’s the topic of almost every conversation.

Meanwhile
Suppose for a minute that the largest volcano on Earth which erupted 12,000,000 years ago and then, again 6,000,000 years ago, and is currently showing rapidly increasing signs of instability, should erupt. That volcano is Yellowstone Park, and if it blows, scientist predict it will immediately decimate one third of North America and bring nuclear winter to the entire planet.

How will that impact our military posturing and reliance on state-of-the-art weapons? How will it impact the governing powers and economic systems we all put our faith in on a daily basis?

Today, I read the following as part of a weekly email newsletter I receive:

8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9/sup> He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
— Psalm 46:8-10

Is it conceivable that in our lifetime, we will all see something so staggering that it shakes our very worldview to its core and forces us to recalculate that which we’ve come to trust?

The End is Near (or Not)
The plus/minus on a 6,000,000-year interval is pretty large and we may well escape the next planetary reset that a writer from 3,000 years ago was predicting but you have to admit that when it happens, life on the Blue Winnebago will change.
